Who will it benefit ?
The short answer is everyone. We all have a body and we all breathe.
The more specific groups of people that I tend to work with are:
-
athletes (age 13 upwards)
-
age 40+ who feel stiffness, aches and pains
-
those feeling anxiety, tension and overwhelm

Athletes
Increasing the length of your muscles, and stressing but not stretching your connective tissue increases your resilience against injury. Posture is improved, your body moves in a more aligned way and then that landing or that shot that took your body to a place it doesn’t normally go to is less likely to cause damage.
Passive stretching delivers:
-
increased resilience to injury
-
increased flexibility and range of movement
-
recovery for body and mind
Injuries will and do occur, this is the nature of sport.
When the timing is right for you to start moving, movement is medicine for your injury but it must be dosed slowly and carefully. Passive stretching can deliver:
-
increased circulation
-
organization of scar tissue fibers
-
collagen remodeling during healing of joints
-
increased mobility and strength to restart training
Age 40+
As we grow older most of us tend to move less and also carry more tension in our bodies.

It doesn’t seem to be a problem until we notice its difficult to get up off the floor, or we start to feel stiff when we get out of bed
This will not magically start improving as time passes.
It is though completely possible to be able to move your body more like your younger self.
Practice brings improvement and passive stretching can deliver:
-
lengthened muscles which improves basic range of motion
-
reduced stiffness and pain due to increased circulation to the joints
-
effective release of tension build-up and a way to let go of any stress

Those feeling anxiety, tension and overwhelm
When you have lived through any kind of abuse or trauma, something changes within you. Your nervous system remembers and it may be difficult to move your system out of fight or flight mode.
Your body may develop areas of stiffness or pain, you may have trouble sleeping, you may feel stuck in a cycle of overwhelm not knowing how you are going to start to feel better.

When you want to release but don’t know how, passive stretching delivers:
-
stillness, a space for you to focus on only you
-
slower breathing and heart rate
-
increased blood flow to your joints, helping to heal and reduce pain
-
stimulation of the digestive system
-
movement to help release tension & stored emotions
